clothed in the hours

...as the moon is void-of-course and its a free day for the children (that is, its a free day for the teachers, a free day for the school but not a free day for the parents who have already paid for the day at school, but I digress) I am shunning all duty. I shall wear pyjamas all day if I want to, and the children shall eat cereal and drink chocolate milk. The dishes and laundry and sweeping can wait.

Actually I've been looking at some other writer's blogs - still on my quest to belong to a writer's community that is accessible and accepting (I'm a member of the Writer's Centre here but so far I am only receiving newsletters, lovely useful things they are). There are some amazingly productive peeps out there in the world! I suppose I could be too if I didn't have a million children and spend my small spare time shopping for divine gold sandals as per yesterday. My seven year old writes at least two books a week (I'm serious - they are picture books, words and illustration by Edie Chow Sinclair and self published on the spot) and I am still wondering what I could possibly write about after eleven years at University. (perhaps I am 'institutionalised'??)

It turns out, also, that there is a Poetry Friday - which leads me to wonder if there is also a Poetry Wednesday, Poetry Tuesday or Poetry Monday? On a Poetry Saturday I'd write Haiku - in honour of Saturn's rulership of structure and limits and pure form. On Poetry Sunday it would be free verse; Poetry Monday I'd write with Iambic Pentameter. Poetry Friday should definitely be Venusian, erotic and sensual. Poetry by Archetype and astrological rulership.

See where my mind goes?

If anyone out there is reading this and is interested in a season of working through 'The Artist's Way' to get the creative spirit moving - throw me a lifeline!

  3. Yep - I'm up for it. I dont have the book, but I will go and fossick it out from somewhere. I think this is the type of guidance/encouragement that I need ... and the sort of friend and writing companion to share it with :) Thanks so much for the opportunity.

Oh - and hopefully I will be in Sydney early November for a conference. Sorry I didn't get around to replying earlier - got tangled up watching Apocalypse Now last night and then fell into bed about 1am!

  6. I got the book - so I guess that I am ready to go ... Borders rocks (especially when I dont have to share the isles with a three year old and the Miffy doll that he's picked up along the way!)

I also treated myself to Stephanie Dowrick's 'Creative Journal Writing' ... not I just have to be enthused about creating a magazine, that I'm feeling at best, ambivalent about!!

Thanks also for steering me the way of Write Stuff - can't wait to see what I come up with for Fiction Friday :) and thanks also for being a great inspiration!!

  7. Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I relate to much of what you say here and of course, already feel an affinity for you since I, too, have five children... three boys and then two girls. My 8 yo girl sounds like your 7 yo... at least she was like that last year... She wrote books all the time. This year she has been focusing on designing clothes. Sometimes she draws about 25 outfits in one day and she walks around saying she is going to be a fashion designer when she grows up.

Ah well, I read your scribbling this week and love it!

I'd be interested in working through The Artist's Way since I've heard so much about it in another group I am part of. I don't own it, though. If you are definitely going to work through it let me know because I work much better in a group dynamic than alone.

  8. So, I had the opportunity to go to Barnes and Noble today and so I bought their last copy of the Artist's Way. Let me know if I can join you on this journey. Thanks!

  9. oh this is wonderful - three of us!

Dear Sentient Marrow - its great to meet you and I'm so happy you are joining us to work through the Artist's Way! (its also wonderful to meet another mother of a tribe of little ones - its not often, around here anyway, that I hear of large families - you're a treasure! Mine are 14, 11, 7, 5 and four months - so only the baby not at school now.)

Jodi - yes three year olds and book stores can be hard to reconcile! I had one of Stephanie's journal writing books - very nice. I do recommend a cheap notebook for the beginning of the Artist's Way - for the morning pages. Something you can throw away...

what is your blog called Jodi?

Wow... should we start today?? Let me rephrase that - we should start today!!

I propose we read through the first chapter and reconvene later to discuss how we should manage things .

    I'm looking forward to this!

  11. I've got just a bit more de-cluttering to do and will be back soon with some ideas of how to go about this... meanwhile I've read the first bit of the book and I'm getting ready to begin... later.. d

  12. I'll catch up on my reading after dinner - and yes, there is no better time to begin than now!

Sentinent Marrow - shall check out your blog later on ... and can I just say that I am in awe of the Matriaches of tribes .... I'm hard pressed getting my head around Mum of One (and my inability to say 'no' to anything my volunteer organisations suggest!)

  13. Yea! I read chapter one last night which was I don't know what time for either of you. I am in the Eastern U.S., does anyone know the time difference?

Anyway, I am going to go make coffee and do my morning pages after I get myself a cup.

    Nice to meet you both.

Danae... my five children are 16, 14, 10, 8, and 5. This is the first year they are all in school except my oldest is doing a charter school which is 3 days a week of online academic classes and two days a week of art/performing arts/music classes if he is accepted.

Jodi- I certainly didn't think I was going to be a mother of a tribe... it just sort of happened. I love all of my kids but it does get a bit loud and stressful at times.

I think I'll post on my blog that we are going to do this in case anyone else wants to join us... I hope that's OK.

  14. good idea about posting on your blog SM..

I think the time difference is about ten hours - here in Australia we are ahead of you - so when its Monday morning with you we are settling down for the night... Its kind of cool isn't it?! I love time differences because even though things happen simultaneously we experience them differently according to where we are on the planet... like the eclipse later today which in the States you'll be awake for, and here we'll be snoozing (solar eclipses are bit of an anticlimax at night :) ).. sorry, I'm rambling..

Yep, I'll be doing morning pages from my fave cafe, with baby in the pram next to me...

right now its 6 am, and I've just fed and changed the baby and about to get the kids up for school... be back in about four hours!

  15. Ok - I need to get my self organised. I will read the chapter before I cook dinner and before ABC kids finishes for the arvo. No more distractions!! Considering today I decided that I'm going to give it a serious crack at being a writer ... as neither avenues of full time study or returning to the workforce excite me ... go the Solar Eclipse energy.
